Using the best natural materials and refined steam-bent methods, Wishbone is made to last for generations. In 1944, Hans Wegner began a series of chairs that were inspired by portraits of Danish merchants sitting in Ming Chairs. One of these chairs was the Wishbone Chair (1949), also known as the “Y” or “CH-24,” which has been produced by the Danish firm Carl Hansen & Søn since 1950. The son of a shoemaker, Wegner was trained as a cabinetmaker before attending the School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen, after which he began his career as an architect. Just three years later, Wegner started his own design office, and his work soon caught the eye of Carl Hansen. The Wishbone Chair fit what the Hansen company was looking for to supplement the heavier forms popular at the time. Made in Denmark.
Design greats Charles Eames and Eero Saarinen first met in 1936 at Cranbrook Academy, where they collaborated on many projects, including a collection that won first prize at the Museum of Modern Art’s "Organic Design in Home Furnishings" exhibition in 1941. One of the chairs in that collection was the Organic Chair (1940), a small reading chair with a beautifully upholstered, biomorphically shaped shell. Now available in limited-edition fabrics, only at DWR in the U.S. Made in Poland.
On this sturdy upholstered chair with soft padding and nice lumbar support, you sit comfy while working, doing crafts or enjoying a tasty dinner. Comes in 2 colors, just like the matching swivel chair.
This chair is shaped for your comfort and wellbeing with good lumbar support and restful flexibility of the backrest. Available in different wood veneer finishes to suit your taste and other furniture.
A chair made for those lovely dinners with family and friends. Soft padding with good lumbar support and a steady construction so that you sit comfortably – and for long periods.
Eero Saarinen called himself a “form giver,” and everything he designed – from the Gateway Arch in St. Louis to the TWA Terminal (now the TWA Hotel) at New York's JFK Airport – had a strong sculptural quality. In a 1956 cover story in Time magazine, he announced that he was designing a collection to “clear up the slum of legs in the U.S. home.” Later that year, he completed his Pedestal Table and Tulip Chair Collection (1956) with its cast aluminum base inspired by a drop of high-viscosity liquid. The seat swivels for easy entrance to or exit from a table. Each chair is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Eero Saarinen’s signature. This is the authentic Saarinen Tulip Chair produced by Knoll. Made in Italy.
